Le patrimoine de la Marine à l'épreuve de la guerre à Rochefort (1939-1945)

Tenant compte de l'expérience du Premier conflit mondial, les autorités de la Marine ont évacué une partie de leurs archives à Rochefort au début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Dans une ville où la plupart des bâtiments de la Marine ont été occupés par les Allemands, les fonds et collections conservés dans les bibliothèques et musées ont souvent été déménagés. Mais au total les pertes et dégâts ont été faibles grâce au dévouement des chefs de services et de leurs personnels.

As the experience of World War I had taught them to know better this time, the Navy authorities decided that some of the Rochefort archives would be transferred out when the Second World War broke out. In a town where most of the Navy’s buildings were occupied by the Germans, the funds and collections kept in the local libraries and museums underwent frequent removals. On the whole, however, thanks to devoted heads and members of the staff, no significant loss or damage of material has been recorded.
